Marc Backon joined UNITE HERE HEALTH (“the Fund”) in May 2024 as President of Aurora Plans. In this role, Marc oversees various aspects of the Aurora Plans, including healthcare cost management, health center management, analytics and reporting, Hospitality Rx (our pharmacy benefit manager), participant engagement, partner management, provider contracting, operations, and information technology. The Aurora Plans consist of approximately 40 plan units tailored for UNITE HERE union members across the country, including in major markets such as Chicago, Atlantic City, Boston, and New York.
Before joining the Fund, Marc served as the Chief Operating Officer for a venture-backed primary care first company focused on reducing member costs and improving care coordination. He has led several commercial health plan divisions, from regional Blue Cross and national health plans to early-stage companies. Marc began his career at a national benefits consulting firm, Segal Company, where he worked with Taft-Hartley Trust Funds.
Throughout his career, Marc has developed extensive industry experience and business acumen with a focus on building high-performing teams and fostering strong relationships that contribute to member satisfaction. He is committed to advocating for underrepresented and diverse populations.
Marc holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamilton College. He lives in Westport, Connecticut, with his wife, Lois. They have two daughters and two grandchildren. During his spare time, he likes to travel, boat, hike and be with family and friends.
