Joel VandeVusse joined the Fund in December 2015 as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). He leads the finance, underwriting, information technology, payroll audit, and facilities departments.
Joel has more than 18 years experience working in health insurance, including a Taft-Hartley fund, a Medicaid and Medicare Advantage plan, and individual and small group plans on the Affordable Care Act exchanges. He has a wealth of knowledge to bring to UNITE HERE HEALTH.
Prior to joining the Fund, Joel served as CFO of Health Republic Insurance of New Jersey. During his time there, he was part of a core team that launched the state’s first and only non-profit healthcare co-op. The company quickly grew to enroll 60,000 members and earn more than $250 million in revenue by the second year of operation. Joel left Health Republic Insurance of New Jersey in good financial shape, and the company is still going strong and making a profit.
Joel received a Bachelor of Arts in social sciences from the University of Michigan. He lives in Maplewood, New Jersey with his wife and two daughters. He spends his free time coaching softball and driving Olivia to dance classes and the mall.
